The Rotary Club of Simi Sunset was chartered in May 2002 to provide Simi Valley with a Rotary club that met in the evenings. Until we formed, Simi Valley only had Rotary clubs that met in the morning and at noon. The Rotary Club of Simi Valley meets at noon on Tuesdays at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, while the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise meets at 7:00 am on Thursdays at the Grand Vista hotel.
Best Small Club in the District
While our club has always been small, we have also been very active. For our size, we are one of the most active clubs in our District, which stretches from San Luis Obispo to China Lake in the North and throughout Ventura County to the South and has 71 clubs and more than 3,200 Rotarians. We’ve won the “Best Small Club in the District” award several times. Our key fundraisers include:
All told, our fundraisers contribute about $30,000 every year to local charities and to Rotary’s international activities, which is a substantial amount for a club with our number of members. In addition, we participate in numerous other community service activities, and also help our fellow Rotary clubs with their activities.
Desire to Grow
We have accomplished a lot in our 12 years, but we wanted to accomplish even more. Today, we have about 22 members and 3 honorary members, and we expect to grow by another 10 members this coming year. Our club is passionate about contributing to our community. Our motto: “Service above self”, couldn’t be more fitting. There is a unique camaraderie not only on a business/professional/networking level, but on a personal and familiar level. We are like family.
