International Service covers any project we contribute to outside the U.S. Though our club is just 5 years old, we have been involved in projects in several countries. In our first year we completed a water project in India & had a club delegation visit with a Rotary Club in Celaya, Mexico to find out how we can assist. We ended up purchasing a fetal heart monitor for a Celaya hospital.
We have proudly sent 2 members on National Immunization trips to India and Nigeria. Polio eradication is the #1 priority of Rotary and with only 4 countries remaining with the deadly polio disease, we are close to achieving this goal. We also donate at least $2000 annually to the Polio Plus fund to financially support the goal.
Currently we are pursuing a project in a little village in Mexico- Maclovio. We have "adopted" an elementary school which has no playground of any sort, no lunchroom, no running water except that which is only used for recently constructed toilets. Our goal is to clear an area & install a playground to accommodate about 20 children.
We have participated in a grant to purchase an ambulance in India, a water filtration system in Thailand after the tsunami wiped out their water supply source.
A member headed to the Philippines for 12 days to help construct homes for a group of homeless. Our club sponsored an Ambassadorial Scholar to complete his thesis in England.
Other projects include: Project TRIUMPH (bringing Jewish, Muslim & Christian teens together to learn & share); housing Group Study Exchange visitors from South Africa, Philippines, Brazil & this year from India; providing funds for wheelchairs in several countries; funding to help Rotaplast (to correct cleft palates in children in other countries) and the list goes on.
