Community Service encompasses a vast array of projects including youth, seniors, the local environment, fundraising, etc.
During this year, the Community Services Directors have chosen to focus on a special community need each month. These have and will include donations for: For the Troops, Care & Share, Samaritan Center, Dress for Success collection.
Fundraisers which are essential to supporting much of what we do. During the year we cook sausages and sauerkraut at Oktoberfest (they are amazingly good!), host a Howl-o-ween Pooch Parade and Pet Expo and the Gator 5K/10K Run.
December 15 is when we get together with the two other Simi Valley Rotary clubs and assemble around 200 bicycles and donate them along with helmets to needy youth in the community. An important note here it to know the bicycles are given to the parents who in turn give them to their child on Christmas Day.
In another month or two, we will be distributing books to Justin Elementary, grades K-3. This is an annual project we all get behind. It's the Reading by 9 program we adopted several years ago in our club and we adopt a new school each year to receive more than 500 books!
